D.A. Mindell is a playwright and educator based in New York, New York. He aims to cultivate a body of work in which trans artists can explore the breadth and depth of opportunity that has been available to our cisgender counterparts for centuries. His play On the Evolutionary Function of Shame makes its world premiere and off-Broadway debut in February 2025. Other notable work includes Joe, Interrupted in the 2025 Breaking the Binary Festival //dare collection, Harold and Babs for the 2024 Fair Play Initiative Commission through Florida Atlantic University Theatrelab, and Somebody Told Me There’s a Monster in the Lake for the 2024 First Kiss Theatre residency program. He’s worked as an educator for Mythik Camps, the Alliance Theatre, and SOJOURN. In his free time, he enjoys baking, horror movies, and chasing after his dog Birdie (short for Bertolt Brecht, with whon he shares a birthday).
